Dear clients, friends, and supporters,

I am thrilled to share this news with you: I was chosen to lead a groundbreaking project for the Thurston County Food Bank, as their Artist in Residence! This would not have been possible without the support of so many amazing people.

Thanks to a waste prevention grant from the Department of Ecology, we are embarking on a collaborative, multi-faceted Art and Action project. The focus of the project is:

Wasting Less Food as a Solution to Hunger.

This Art and Action project will involve over 1,000 students and adults, primarily in Lacey, WA. It will result in a permanent art installation at the new Lacey Food Bank. The new food bank will house a farm stand, distribution center, and victory garden, run by veterans and GRuB. Check out this article to learn more about the new food bank.

One of the things that thrills me about with this project is that it will be a collaborative effort from start to finish, including the design of the art installation. Often times this step is skipped over because an organization wants to know what product they will receive before they agree to fund it. This makes sense, of course. I wouldn’t be likely to go into a store, hand the cashier some money, and ask them to pick out some new shoes for me!

Yet I believe involving the public in the design process will result in a richer, more robust project, and a more interesting and impactful art installation.
